Quissico (the capital of the Zavala district) is located about 130 km north of Xai Xai (pronounced: shy shy) on the N1. This small and humble village is worth a visit. There is an ATM and you can get most of your shopping done too. Besides a few bigger stores, and a lot of small shops, there is also a market. It has a very relaxed atmosphere, and you won’t be hassled. Take a walk through this bussling town, mingle in with the locals, and feel the African vibe. Quissico’s claim to fame is the annual timbila music festival (last weekend of August). The local language spoken here is Chop, but the majority of the people speak Portuguese as well, being the official language.
